She had requested access to a toilet after her arrest and attempted suicide by stabbing herself with a ballpoint pen there. The police, however, saved her life. Following the incident, she was placed on suicide watch at the St Charles County jail and granted bail at $2 million USD. The attorney for the state of Phil Groenweghe called it “an awareness of guilt.”
